AI is part of everyday life | kompasbank navigator

In 2026, artificial intelligence will no longer be a future project but a natural part of everyday life for many Danish SMEs. AI is not about replacing people, but about providing them with better conditions for making decisions, working more efficiently, and creating value more quickly.

In fact, the latest figures from Statistics Denmark (2025) show that 37% of companies with 10–49 employees, 56% of those with 50–99 employees, and as many as 62% of companies with 100–249 employees already use artificial intelligence in their business. This means that roughly every second, a small or medium-sized company in Denmark now actively leverages AI as part of its daily operations—either to automate processes, strengthen decision-making, or create new business opportunities.

The development highlights that AI is no longer a vision of the future, but a competitive advantage in the present. Companies that manage to utilize technology strategically and purposefully gain a significant competitive advantage. When tasks such as customer service, marketing, and reporting are automated, time is freed up, allowing employees to focus on what creates real value and drives the company’s development.

For SMEs, AI presents a unique opportunity: the ability to act more quickly than large companies. While large companies are often hindered by complex processes and slow decision-making, smaller businesses can leverage their agility to implement AI solutions quickly and effectively. This can be the difference between following the development and leading it.

AI is much more than ChatGPT

Most people associate artificial intelligence with tools like ChatGPT, but AI can be used for far more than just generating text. Below, you’ll first find an overview of broad, general AI models capable of handling many different tasks. After that, you can explore a range of more specialized tools designed to strengthen specific areas of work in Danish SMEs.

Whether you want to streamline workflows, improve the customer experience, or make more data-driven decisions, there are AI tools that can make a real difference.

Productivity and general use

  • ChatGPT (OpenAI): Effective for text generation, prototyping, idea development, and creating drafts and presentations.

  • Claude (Anthropic): Strong at handling long documents, clear communication, and complex topics.

  • Gemini (Google): Good for image and video understanding, fast information retrieval, and direct integration with Gmail, Docs, and Drive.

Marketing and copywriting

  • Jasper AI: Produces marketing copy, newsletters, and campaigns in record time.

  • Zapier: Automates repetitive tasks across apps and systems—completely without coding.

  • Canva Magic Studio: Combines text, images, and video in one integrated solution.

Data Analysis and Decision Support

  • Microsoft Power BI: Visualizes data and creates automated dashboards.

  • Tableau: Intuitive dashboards and data-driven insights.

  • Fireflies.ai: Automatically records, transcribes, and summarizes meetings.

Coding and Development

Ethics and responsibility as a competitive advantage

However, the numerous business benefits of using AI tools come with challenges. While the technology can streamline tasks and create value in your company, it also introduces new demands for ethics and responsibility. With the upcoming EU AI Act, it becomes even more important to have control over data ethics, transparency, and security. Companies must be able to document how data is used, who has access to it, and how algorithms make decisions.

The new regulation on artificial intelligence aims to protect citizens’ rights and strengthen trust in AI, while also supporting innovation. The AI Act is based on a risk-based approach, in which systems are categorized into four levels of risk: unacceptable, high, low, and minimal. High-risk systems in particular must meet stricter requirements regarding documentation, human oversight, and registration in an EU database.

The rules formally came into effect on August 1, 2025, and the most extensive requirements for high-risk AI systems must be complied with as of August 2026. Companies should therefore already ensure that their AI solutions meet the requirements for transparency, accountability, and secure data usage—not only to comply with the law, but also to build trust with customers and partners.

If you need more information or guidance on the new rules for artificial intelligence, you can find support in the Confederation of Danish Industry’s dedicated AI universe here.
